University Students and Officials celebrate 3rd Global Peace Festival Day in the Campus by giving to GPFF-ALS Communities

GPFF Peace Education Extends to Davao Del Norte

GPFF conducted a second capability-building workshop for GlobALS implementers, instructional managers and stakeholders in Davao Del Norte on June 4, 2012. The workshop was held at the computer room of La Paz National High School in La Paz, Carmen, Davao Del Norte and is a concerted effort of Peace Education and GlobALS programs of GPFF.

In the afternoon session, GlobALS program coordinator Lourdes Navarro, who is the ALS-EPS and Muslim Education division coordinator of Davao Del Norte, gave a report on the recent development of GlobALS in the region. This was followed by another report by GlobALS program manager, Bobby Huertas. He gave a presentation on GlobALS (vision, mission and goals), updates on Metro Manila learning sites, and future plans.

Among the 26 participants were: the Alternative Learning System (ALS) education program supervisor (EPS) and Muslim Education division coordinator of Davao Del Norte, the school head of La Paz National High School, division ALS coordinators, barangay ALS coordinator, officials of Brgy. La Paz (Carmen) and Brgy. Palma Hill (Talaingod), mobile teachers, instructional managers, and ALS passers.

The Peace Education Module was the focal point of discussion, managed by GPFF curriculum developer Ann Marlita Montejo-Arevalo. She presented the three segments of the module: (1) Our Common Identity, (2) Human Rights are Endowed, and (3) A Culture of Peace through Service. Each segment consisted of a PowerPoint presentation of cognitive content, which explains the underlying principles and values that are the focus of the segment. The presentations were then followed by interactive group activities meant to stimulate reflection, creativity and ownership regarding the learned principles and values and how they may be practically applied in their own lives.

The last session introduced the participants to the worldwide Global Peace Festival Foundation – its vision, mission, core values, goals, programs, projects and activities. Again this was carried out by Ann Montejo-Arevalo using PowerPoint and videos.

At the end of the day, the GlobALS implementers, IMs and stakeholders gained consciousness that better empowered them to understand who they are and their place in the community, nation and world; respect, appreciate and live peacefully with others who may be different; and internalize the lessons to influence their family and friends with the “One Family under God” perspective.
