GPFF Organizes Peace Education Module Workshops to equip NSTP and ALS Implementers for Academic Year 2012-2013

Rizal Technological University hosts first university-level workshop
Twenty National Service Training Program (NSTP) Implementers and 120 NSTP students attended the first campus-level Peace Education Module Workshop for NSTP Implementers on May 16 at Rizal Technological University (RTU) in Mandaluyong City, Manila.

Rizal Technological University’s newly appointed NSTP Director, Dr. Andres Delos Santos, thanked GPFF as a longtime partner for student activities and for organizing the workshop to help adapt the implementers on the implementation of Peace Education for NSTP curriculum on the upcoming Academic Year 2012-2013.
The importance of peace education has been accentuated by GPFF’s founder Dr. Hyun Jin Moon in his previous speech during the Global Peace Leadership Conference in Brazil last year.
“Qualities such as compassion, forgiveness, respect, responsibility, integrity and, most of all, living for the sake of others, must be genuinely motivated by the heart and the human spirit. Thus, we need to establish a new framework for peace rooted in spiritual aspirations, principles and values which could be the common ground for disparate parties to meet,” Dr. Moon emphasized.
GPFF Workshop for ALS Implementers and learners raises consciousness on the value of peace education
In order to raise consciousness on the importance of peace education and understanding the vision, “One Family under God,” GPFF organized simultaneous workshops for GPFF Alternative

The workshop aims to present GPFF Peace Education Module contents to NSTP Implementers in Rizal Technological University while equipping them with sufficient knowledge on its practical application for students in a classroom setting. It also aims to provide an effective concept of organizing a youth-led community service.
Sessions included in the workshop covers three principal themes of the Peace Education Module: Our Common Identity: Conflict Resolution and Peace-building; Human Rights are Endowed to the People; and, A Culture of Peace through Service. Dr. Ann Montejo-Arevalo, Curriculum Developer and Peace Educator of GPFF Philippines, gave the local approach on three topics.

While more learners are enrolling for GPFF-ALS program, this provides the opportunity to impart the values of fostering a global culture of peace and service to wider array of people from different cultural backgrounds.
Moreover, since the impending integration of GPFF Peace Education as the sixth learning strand to ALS Modules, implementers were encouraged to take course on the practical applications of peace education lecture and activities for local implementation.
GPFF-ALS second cycle had commenced on January 2012 and will conclude on November 2012 with more than 400 enrollees from nine Community Learning Sites in Manila and Mindanao.
Dr. Ann Montejo-Arevalo gave the lectures on both workshops that covered the three GPFF Peace Education Module themes and its corresponding activities. Also present in the workshops are implementers from Global Peace Youth Corps-ALS and ALS-BFC Filipinas.
