University Students and Officials celebrate 3rd Global Peace Festival Day in the Campus by giving to GPFF-ALS Communities

GPFF and PSNEI to conduct workshop on Peace Education for

Higher Education Institutions in the Philippines

The Philippine Society of NSTP Educators and Implementers, Inc. (PSNEI, Inc) an association of National Service Training Program (NSTP) educators and implementers in the Philippines has once Peace Education curriculum in its thrust to promote young people’s role in national development.

In a meeting with Dr. Florida Labuguen, President of PSNEI, GPFF is allotted an 8-hour session to present the peace education content and to train the educators who provides training for all three components of NSTP namely, Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), Literacy Training Service (LTS), and Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC). More than 150 educators and implementers from different colleges and universities nationwide are expected to attend the workshop which will commence on May.

 

According to Dr. Labuguen, the objective of the Peace Education is to help students or young people on understanding and substantiating the Culture of Peace through the following topics: Educating the students on Cultivating Inner Peace; Dismantling the Culture of War and Violence; Living with Justice and Compassion; Living in Harmony with Earth; Promoting Human Rights Responsibilities; and Building Intercultural Respect, Reconciliation and Solidarity.

 

“The content of the module”, Dr. Labuguen added, “is expected to include the concept, importance and strategies in creating Peace which can be applied in one’s self, family and environment.

Peace Education, same as other 8 dimensions of NSTP, is instructed once during the first semester of the Academic year on a 4-hour session. The typical delivery modes for education is through classroom presentations, lecture, film showing, role playing, and case analysis with the aid of equipments if needed. While on the second semester, the students will have a 36-hour community immersion and experiential learning wherein the contents of the peace education module will be applied.

The GPFF Peace Education Module, once validated by the Institution Heads, will be extended to Higher Education Institutions in the Philippines, both public and private

Thousand Messages for World Peace launched during the 9th NSTP Congress

 

With the theme: “Aiming for Social Transformation through Quality NSTP Implementation,” the Philippine Society of NSTP Educators and Implementers Inc. (PSNEI) held its 9th NSTP Congress of the Implementers and Educators of PSNEI on April 13-15, 2011 at the Legend Hotel, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan. With more than 278 educators, implementers and institution heads from different colleges and universities in the Philippines, it aims to deepen the understanding of the role of NSTP educators and implementers in the effective and relevant training programs in the light of the many crises in the country.

This objective coincides with GPFF’s goal on building a movement involving all sectors of society that promotes the unity of the human family on every level, particularly in the level of academe. It’s also a proper network to introduce GPFF, its goal and activities, to higher education institutions nationwide; empower NSTP Directors as GPF coordinators and encourage them to initiate GPF activities in their respective colleges and universities.

As an established partner of GPFF, PSNEI also encouraged its multi-sectored participants to support GPFF’s worldwide endeavors on interfaith partnerships, strengthening marriage and family, and fostering a culture of service as introduced by Mr. Jedediah Eldon Estiandan, GPFFPhilippines’ Executive Director. As a positive response, members of the Local Government Units of Puerto Princesa City, as well as representatives from Commission of Higher Education, Department of National Defense, Higher Education Institutions and other Partner Agencies lined up to pen their commitment, personal reflections, aspirations and support in the advancement of world peace as local leaders through the launching of the project, Thousand Messages for World Peace.

The NSTP Congress of the Implementers and Educators is an annual convention of PSNEI in support of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001, RA9163, which recognises the vital role of the youth in nation building. Also present in the convention are representatives from Global Peace Youth Corps, a key GPFF affiliate.
