Dr. Hyun Jin Moon is the founder and Chairman of the Global Peace Foundation (GPF), headquartered in Washington, D.C. and operating in regions around the world. He is a recognized spiritual leader, humanitarian, entrepreneur, and philanthropist dedicated to empowering young leaders in public service and peace-building. Dr. Moon is the third son of the Reverend Sun Myung Moon of Korea. As the founder of Service for Peace, an international service and educational non-governmental organization recognized by both the United Nations and the U.S. government, Dr. Moon has stressed the values of living for others through community service and building a character of integrity and personal responsibility.



The Global Peace Foundation has convened Global Peace Festivals with over one million participants on six continents with interfaith, family-strengthening and service initiatives under the vision of “One Family under God.” The GPF supports and leads initiatives including youth character education, peace building and reconciliation. Projects include environmental restoration efforts of the endangered Nairobi River in Kenya and Bagmati River in Nepal; ongoing peace education to bring reconciliation among ethnically diverse peoples in Kenya following outbreaks of violence in 2008; and the Mindanao Peace Initiative to support economic development and understanding among Christians and Muslims in the Philippines.

 

As the chairman of News World Communications, the corporate owner of United Press International, Dr. Moon promotes responsible media representing a diversity of viewpoints and opinions dedicated to the highest standards of journalism and democratic ideals. He oversees a wide array of global economic enterprises promoting growth and corporate social responsibility. He also established the United Vision Group in 1992, an Inc. 500 company that grew to a multi-million dollar retail enterprise and became recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in America.



Dr. Moon graduated from Columbia University with honors and holds a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. He has also received honorary doctorate degrees from several prominent universities around the world.

Dr. Moon is an avid sportsman, known for his love of nature and the wilderness, as well as an accomplished horseman. He represented his country as a member of the Korean Equestrian Team in both the Seoul Olympics (1988) and the Barcelona Olympics (1992). Dr. Moon and his wife, Jun Sook, are the proud parents of nine children.
