6th Korea-Philippine GPLE Alllights Village Project: Where light becomes life

The 6th Korea-Philippines Global Peace Leadership Exchange (GPLE) was held on June 5-9, 2012 in Nueva Ecija. Centering on the Alllights Village project, 35 Korean government officials and civilians embarked on a higher level of service alongside GPFF Philippines and the provincial government of Nueva Ecija.

For its fourth visit, GPLE returned to Nueva Ecija, this time to bring more light to the municipalities of Llanera and Rizal. Ten solar-charged street lamps were equally distributed to two sitios: Sitio Cabiao, Bagumbayan, Llanera and Sitio Kaigorotan, Aglipay, Rizal.

To date, 13 sitios in the province have been energized by the Alllights Village project, and in July, the 7th GPLE will complete the second stage of energizing by installing 8 more solar street lamps.

Among the 35 South Korean delegates, eight are government officials of Yangcheon-Gu in Seoul City.  A welcome meeting for the Yangcheon-Gu officials was initiated by the Nueva Ecija provincial government at the Governor’s conference room on June 7th. They were warmly received by the department heads of the provincial Capitol. Both presented their respective government profiles and exchanged ideas on how to make improvements in the province.

GPFF Korea, through the “Dream Bus, Dream Box” project, also donated 3 boxes of school shoes for the children of the Alllights Villages. A tree planting activity was again held to counter the effects of climate change and soil erosion in the province.

In addition to donating solar lanterns and street lamps, GPLE delegates also held tree planting activities to counter climate change effects in the province and donated 3 boxes of school shoes for the children of Alllights Village.

A 3rd grade child of Sitio Kaigorotan (a village of indigenous people called “Igorots” who originally live in the mountains of northern Philippines), gave her testimony on how the solar lantern helped her perform better in school and served her family at night. She is determined to “pay-it-forward” by becoming an excellent student for the future of her family and her community.

GPFF Korea, GPFF Philippines and Nueva Ecija provincial government are regularly collaborating in order to serve struggling communities by providing them not only light but also education, livelihood and community centers. In September, the Alllights Village project – where light becomes life -- will soon spread its light to more unenergized villages throughout the Philippines.

Thanks to Alllights Project, Sitio Kaigorotan now has a place where people in the community can gather at night.
